I really don't like how they are doing their plugin models any longer. 1) Always tied to hardware which becomes obsolete in 5 years. Upgrade or lose plugins. Twilight full movie 123movies. $650 64-Core Quad Socket Gaming. 2) Not easy to use plugins on multiple computers. 3) External hardware require receptacles. No mixing off the grid. 4) Plugins prices are lowered over time, losing your equity 5) Plugins are sometimes given free with new hardware, losing your equity 6) Some Plugins become obsolete, with loss of unsupported hardware (UAD-1) 7) Promise to transfer becomes obsolete with loss of server support (UAD-1, UAD-2 next?) 8) Multiple plugins of similar type (i.e. 1176) lose original equity. Then they become only available as a bundle. Universal Audio Plugins CrackThen the bundle price is lowered. I could go on, especially with the 4 hardware failures I've had from the hardware end of their business, lying to me over the phone (making promises they break), etc but in short, I'm DONE with them. As much as I've not liked how WAVES did their business, at least you can use them on any computer, at any time, and they last forever. I'm only getting software that isn't attached to hardware from now on. The high Prices I paid for UA came at the assumption you had equity to sell if you didn't like them. But that turned out to be a lie too. I've proved on 5 computers that UAD-1 clashes with Fast Track ULTRA drivers, causing random blue screens of death. Remove ULTRA, stops, or make UA inactive, stops. Both active: Blue Screen at some point. Maybe 24 hours later, but it happens. One UAD-1 overwrote my WAV files!! Put random spike noises all over the file that was PROTECTED! Another UAD-1 was dead on arrival. Ditto with an LA-610, dead compressor. The replacement 610 gauge won't respond on COMP after only 40 hours of usage. Download PPSSPP 1.5.4 (20M) Some emulators may require a system BIOS to run game titles. I've owned 8 Universal Audio hardware products and literally 4 were messed up and had to be replaced. I have WAVES from before UA, so I use them. Recently got FabFilter Pro Q and LOVE it. I'll have to check out Voxengo stuff. Universal Audio Plugins CrackedThanks for the tip! I have addressed some of these issues. Back in the early 2000's Universal Audio fell over backwards to accommodate you. Since 2009, they could care less. I've been lied to, bullshitted and then ignored. When I did start complaint about UA the first few times I had issues, literally NO ONE chimed in with my point of view. Literally every commenter said 'Love Mine, Never Had a Problem, Don't know what you're talking about' Now here I see others had the same issues, and the irrefutable logic of hopi is what I was thinking but didn't put into words. So while it won't change UA, it did put my situation into perspective, and certainly may aid others looking into plugins to know the ups and downs. Last item: Bitching. I think of this as saying something over and over. I challenge you to read anywhere another person who said their WAV files were overwritten, their LA-610 (2 in a row) had hardware issues, and that they were lied to by customer service. I don't even fear a libel suit, I can prove it. That's not 'bitching'. Universal AudioThose are facts, ma man. I have a UAD-1 card installed now discontinued for support by the company but still fine for the UAD plugins I have. However on several occasions now I have had hardware glitches caused by the UAD-1 card. I had a boot problem where I was tearing my hair out suspecting this and that. I disconnected all external hardware and in the end came to suspect my power supply. I replaced the power supply with an expensive new one and still, had same problems only to find out that the system was not booting due to my UAD card malfunctioning! I removed, uninstalled the software. Then reinstalled the software and then refitted the card and now everything is fine again. I think there may be a conflict between UAD and NVDIA video cards. However I purchased an entirely unnecessary replacement power supply. The UAD plugins are great but so are all the numerous great software-only plugins. If I have problems again then I will simply remove my UAD-1 and live without it. I won't be upgrading. My 2 cents [or less] worth: UAD used to be a 'solution' to deal with a lack of computer power, back when that was a real problem. These days, I don't see it as a 'real' problem. For way less than the cost of their flagship products you can build a whole new pc with more than enough cpu power to run just about any plugins you want, including a slew of nebula instances. Ummm let's see, that was about 1.35 cents worth. Hahaha I'll add 0.65 cents of mine: nowadays it's still a 'solution' to unauthorized copying (a.k.a. 'software piracy'). The development team that creates their plugs is world-class, and (due to integration with proprietary hardware) their platform has not ever been cracked. On my MBP laptop I'm still running out of CPU power all of the time, btw. PS: my personal experience with UA is great. They sent me free replacement hardware when mine failed at some point. I guess people equate quality with cost. If you pay $500 for a plugin it WILL sound better than a free one Most users don't really pay $500 'list price' for a plug-in, they just wait for coupons, vouchers, and holiday season. I think I paid about half that for an UAD-2 SOLO/Laptop and got a bunch of plug-ins with them, some of which I still haven't found any replacement for. Absolutely awesome value for money, imho. I'd be happy to pay upwards of $500 for something that sounds as good as the distortion on their Moog filter alone (suggestions welcome!). I am waiting for some super voucher that will give me half price on the FabFilter bundle. I guess people equate quality with cost. If you pay $500 for a plugin it WILL sound better than a free one Nonsense. There are plugins that are well-worth paying for, even expensive ones. I'm a big fan of FabFilter plugins for instance. They are on the expensive side. But I have never seen free or even cheap plugins that offer the features, flexibility, informative, functional UI of their plugins. They make mixing a lot easier, as far as I'm concerned. I have also never found free reverb impulses that sound anywhere near as good as those that come (only) with high-end commercial plugins like Altiverb and Knufinke SIR2. Some are good, like the Samplicity M7 impulses but not as good in my opinion. There are plugins that are well-worth paying for, even expensive ones. I'm a big fan of FabFilter plugins for instance. I said that many people equate quality with the price they pay. I would hope most people understand that the relationship between the cost of something and the price paid is not always some linear increase in proportion. Incidentally, the FabFilter plugins are at the forefront of my mind when comparing price against quality in that they offer extremely good value for money. Now and then it drops in rather offensive threads like 'Plugin X sounds much better than your plugin Y'. The IL staff always ask for evidence/sound examples that supports such statements. In most cases you can achieve 'exactly' the same sound with both plugins, the difference is because of volume differences or because the person doesn't understand how plugin Y works.
